UPTC Committee
Overview
The UPTC is composed of an elected faculty representative from each college and the library.
One of the roles of the UPTC is to hear faculty appeals of promotion and/or tenure decisions to determine whether the decision was prejudiced, arbitrary, or capricious or that the procedures in the P&T policies were not properly followed. It is important to keep in mind that the committee does not evaluate the candidate, just the process.
The appeals process involves a hearing in which a subset of the members of the UPTC review the relevant information and interview the appropriate people involved in the promotion and/or tenure decision, including the appellant. The UPTC members deliberate and render a recommendation to the Provost.
